Volunteer story of the month: Carine Sztark

Carine Sztark has been working at Thales for 20 years for the Avionics activities. An engineer by training, she joined the aeronautical certification department in Bordeaux in 2011. With two years of volunteer experience in India and now in France, she tells us about her involvement as an ambassador for the Foundation since 2015.

Can you describe your role/actions as ambassador for the Thales Foundation?

CS : « I became an ambassador for the Thales Foundation on the Bordeaux campus in October 2015. I act as a relay between the Foundation and the employees on site, helping to explain the Foundation’s missions, promote its actions and help those who wish to take part in its projects as volunteers or project sponsors with the Foundation call for projects. I can therefore, assist them in determining whether their projects are in line with the eligibility and selection criteria and help them to fill in their application and donation request.

My actions were very small to begin with, but little by little, they grew thanks to my frequent meetings with the Foundation team in Paris and the establishment of the Thales Bordeaux campus, regrouping two former sites in the region. I took part in the awards ceremony for winning employee projects that took place in Bordeaux: ASDS and Créons Ensemble. I also helped to promote the “payroll giving scheme” operation and organised pro-bono workshop with the help of 15 or so employees on campus for the benefit of the Association Solidarité Développement Samako.

What motivated you to become an ambassador?

CS : « I am very interested in humanitarian aid and international solidarity, fields in which I have gained experience as a volunteer in several associations over the past 10 years. I wanted to show my motivation by helping the Thales Foundation as soon as it was created, thus creating a link between my commitment as a volunteer in an association and my professional environment.
The Foundation team shows competency and innovation in all its endeavors, which motivated me to organise a pro bono workshop. Discussing different topics with my colleagues outside of our professional framework was extremely enhancing! »

A word of advice for those who are hesitant to commit?

CS : « Get involved! Nothing but positive results! »
